5 Practical Ways to Keep Christ as the Focal Point of Christmas

1. Read the Story of Jesus’ Birth

The Biblical Story of the Birth of Christ

Luke 1:26-38; Luke 2:1-7; Matthew 1:18-25; Luke 2:8-21;Matthew 2:1-12; Mark 1:14-15

When you choose to read the story of Jesus’ birth is totally up to you and your family, but I would highly recommend reading it together as a family on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day.

This helps bring the focus off of the gifts and back to Christ.

But don’t stop there! Read the Bible together as a family regularly!

2. Make a Commitment to Attend Church Regularly Through Christmas.

Our Church is going to be having Christmas Messages, Christmas Hymns, special services, and activities to keep us centered on the “Reason for the Season,” which is Jesus Christ.

Christmas offers you a chance to start a new habit with your family. There’s no better time to start a habit of attending church than this Christmas!

We will also be providing a Christmas Eve service at 7pm. Come and bring others with you.

3. As a Family or with a Friend, Shop for Others… especially for Those in Need.

You could take the focus off of getting gifts for yourself and your family and look for deals for those hurting, lonely, or in need.

Just as God loves us and gave Himself up for us, He in turn calls us to be generous and sacrificial like He was! Even if you select one person to bless, it will be worth it.

4. Tithe and Give to Special Offerings for the Lord’s Work to Well Funded.

Give to the Lottie Moon World Mission’s Christmas Offering and help support missionaries around the world meeting needs, ministering to others in difficult times, building relationships, and sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ. Plus, there are other great ministries to be a part of this time a year where people would greatly benefit through your giving.

5. Listen to Christian Christmas Music

If Christmas is about the birth of Jesus, why not listen to Christmas songs that are about Christ?

There isn’t anything wrong with listening to Jingle Bells, Frosty the Snowman, and other Christmas classic songs, but do we want these to be the only Christmas songs that our families hear and know? Make sure that you listen to beautiful hymns and songs that tell the story of the birth of Jesus Christ.

In Closing, experiencing Christ this Christmas and worshiping Him will not happen by accident. Nor will sharing the joy of Christ with our family and others. We who know Jesus Christ must make intentional decisions to make Jesus and His coming to mankind the focal point of our lives and the Christmas Season.

Matthew 10:32-33

32 “Whoever acknowledges me before others, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven. 33 But whoever disowns me before others, I will disown before my Father in heaven.
